As the City of Newcastle (CN), creates its new Environment Strategy in order to drive a circular economy, harness nature-based solutions, and take action on climate change, these are some of the areas of focus.
The strategy will help define CN’s key environmental objectives and initiatives during the next decade and is designed to align with the sustainability outcomes of the draft Community Strategic Plan, Newcastle 2040, which itself is on Public exhibitionUntil 28 February
The Council will receive the draft Newcastle Environment Strategy following extensive community consultation.
More than 4500 pieces of feedback collected during the development of the Community Strategic Plan, quarterly surveys, Climate Action Plan engagement and a waste specific survey have already been reviewed to understand the community’s priorities for our environment.
This week will see targeted stakeholder consultation. Key priority areas will be used to facilitate discussions during the workshops. This will include exploring the possibilities for a circular economy, which would design out waste, keep material in use, and turn it into a resource; looking at how to build resilience against the effects of climate changes; and looking at how natural solutions can be used to solve social problems in order to protect, manage, and restore our environment in ways that benefit both communities and ecosystems.
During the public display, which is set to take place later in the year, community members will be able to offer additional comments.
