Justice Jasbir Singh Seechewal and Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal are the chairpersons of a technical expert panel constituted by National Green Tribunal for action on solid waste management in state. They reviewed today the progress in the implementation of activities referred to in the District Environment Plan, Patiala.

The committee visited Patiala’s head office of Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) where they were accompanied by Prof Adarsh Pal (PPCB) and Krunesh Garg (member secretary), who released the manual on operation of and maintenance of sewage treatment plant (STPs).

The committee was informed of the PPCB’s efforts for the dissemination of real-time data in the public realm regarding online continuous monitoring stations installed in industries, STPs and rivers.

The chairman PPCB and other board officers gave the committee a live demonstration. The chairman presented copper water bottles and jute bags to the monitoring committee in an effort encourage single-use plastic abstinence.

The committees also visited the bio-composting site in the premises of the board, where the horticulture waste— along with other bio-degradable waste— was converted into manure with the help of mechanical bio-composter.
