MERRILVILLE NASCO is accepting applications to its Environmental Action Grant, which supports local nonprofit organizations involved in environmental initiatives.
NIPSCOs grant, now in its seventh year, provides $60,000 for funding environmental restoration and education projects across the NIPSCO service territory.

NIPSCO is determined to make a positive impact on the environment as we move towards a more sustainable and reliable future. Protecting our environment is good for all of us. We are proud to support organizations and individuals who make a difference in the communities in which we live and work.
Last year’s 18 grant recipients included schools, community groups, environmental groups, and other non-profit organizations.
The projects included wetland restoration and the Smithsonian Water/Ways educational exhibit, support for forest school programming, pollinator protection initiatives and outdoor and environmental education.
For organizations looking for funds to support environmental restoration projects or education programs, grants are available in amounts between $500 and $5,000. Grant applications will be accepted until April 1st, with awards announced the week after Earth Day.
Nonprofit organizations involved in an education or environmental restoration project are invited to submit a grant proposal at NIPSCO.com/Community.
Online applicants must select the Environmental Stewardship option under the Area of Impact dropdown box.
The application should include a project description, goals, budget, target audience and timeline. The NIPSCO Environmental Grant Committee reviews requests based on the following factors: quality, strategic potential and community impact.
Eligible organizations must be a 5013 non-profit or another non-profit, as determined by the Internal Revenue Service. They must have an environmental project focus and a direct impact on NIPSCO service areas.
Grant funding is not for capital projects, such as weatherization or LEED-certification, expansion or trail/path building, Green Build construction or purchases of solar panels.
