Sometimes a hero doesn’t need a cape, but a green thumb.

The Kawartha lakes Environmental Advisory Committee is seeking nominations for the Environmental Hero Awards.

The committee recognizes each year individuals, businesses, and students who have demonstrated a commitment to improving our environment’s wellness.

“The Environmental Hero Awards were created in 2004 by council and we’ve seen a variety of inspiring nominees over the years,” said committee chair Pat Warren. “Last year was one of our most successful yet, with several different winners, and we’re excited to see what this year has in store.”

To be eligible to receive an award nomination, the nominee must meet these criteria:

• Environmental Hero – Must be a resident(s) of Kawartha Lakes, working to address an environmental issue is 2021, acting to influence change for the benefit of the environment without any expectation of reward.

• Environmental Business Hero – Must be a Kawartha Lakes business and resident (s)working to address to an environmental issue in 2021, making an outstanding environmental contribution within Kawartha Lakes and acting successfully to influence change for the benefit of the environment without any expectation of reward.

• Environmental Student Hero – Must be a student, or group of students, who are residents and attend school in the Kawartha Lakes – kindergarten to Grade 12 – who has/have participated in a project that demonstrates a commitment to improve or change the environment that was completed during the school year, between 2021 and 2022. (Project documentation, including photographs and records on progress, is required.

Deadline to apply is February 26th.
