Northwood sewer project under environmental review; construction could begin this fall – Grand Forks Herald

NORTHWOOD N.D. Construction could begin this year to replace parts the Northwood sanitary sewer system. Greg Boppre, office manager of Widseth (an engineering, architectural and environmental surveying company that oversees the project), says that the project will continue into 2023.

Two safety and health issues will be addressed by the project. It will replace and repair parts of Northwood’s sanitary sewer system. No. 5 will be replaced by a new lift station. Lift station No. 5 will be replaced by a new lift station at Washington Avenue and Park Street. The project will also replace Washington Avenue’s sanitary sewer lines that run under the BNSF railroad.

Boppre stated that it will be in 2023 due to delays in getting equipment. We have electric components, large pumps, and a generator. Things that were once possible are now impossible to obtain.

The project is currently under environmental review as a result of a $1.24 Million Community Development Block Grant awarded by North Dakota Department of Commerce in November.

Gail Leverson is a senior funding specialist at Widseth.

Widseth may then open the project to bids after the environmental review is completed. Boppre anticipates that this will be in May, June, or July of this calendar year and states that the goal is to begin the project in the fall.

Boppre estimated that the grant of $1.24 million would cover 80% of project costs when it was granted in November. However, until the bidding process, the final project cost is unknown.

We all know that prices have risen for almost everything we buy these day, so we hope we can find a happier place where some of the components we were looking for are less expensive.
