NZ offers a gloomy assessment on the defense environment

At the end last year, the New Zealand MoD released its Defence Assessment 2021.

The document, which lasted 36 pages, contained five conclusions about security in the country. The first is that climate change and strategic competition are the primary threats to our defense interests.

It pointed out China as an example of centrality in strategic competition. 

China’s rise is the main driver of this competition. Globally, the United States and China are the most visible players in strategic competition. However, all other states are involved in varying degrees. This will increase the possibility of confrontation
