PM Modi calls for ‘zero defect, zero effect on environment’ manufacturing

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, stressed “zero defect” manufacturing and said that there were endless opportunities for manufacturers in a changing global supply chain after the pandemic. The Prime Minister stated that India is today a manufacturing powerhouse.

“Today, the whole world sees India as a manufacturing powerhouse. Our manufacturing sector accounts for nearly 15% of our GDP. However, there are endless possibilities with ‘Make In India. The Prime Minister spoke virtually as he addressed a post-budget Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade DPIIT webinar on ‘Make in India for the World’. Piyush Goyal (Union Minister of Commerce and Industry) also attended the webinar.

The Prime Minister stated that the global supply chain was “destroyed”, shaking the global economy during the COVID-19 epidemic. He said, “This makes Make In India much more relevant and important.”

The Prime Minister urged people to concentrate on the government’s initiative and said that “Make in India” brings “infinite possibilities”. He stated that “our country has been blessed to have manpower and resources that will significantly assist in achieving our objectives.”

PM Modi also encouraged manufacturers to put emphasis on ‘Zero defect and zero effect on the environment’, emphasizing the importance of making environmentally friendly products. “Zero defect, no effect” is the key to quality in a global market. However, it is also important to make products that are sustainable. We can work while keeping in mind both India’s needs and exports. As quality is important in a competitive market, our products should be free of defects. He stated that the world is becoming more environmentally conscious and that our products should have no negative impact on the environment.

India has seen a “massive technological change” in the last few decades, said the Prime Minister. He added that “Make In India” is not just a possibility, but a necessity to meet the country’s development goals. He said that Indian manufacturers can play a leading part in this sector, noting the growing interest in electric cars. Some varieties of steel are imported. We are dependent on them. Why can’t we produce it ourselves from the iron ore exported?

PM Modi also called on manufacturers to reduce their import of medical equipment. India is also importing medical equipment. I believe they can be made here. He said that it was important to offer indigenous options to Indians, so they will be proud to purchase Made in India products.” (ANI)
