In a historic vote, the Italian Constitution now includes protection of the environment and preservation of biodiversity.

It has made the protection of the environment part its constitution with a landmark vote on February 8th.

The Italian parliament approved a new law that requires the state to protect the environment, biodiversity and natural eco-systems for the benefit of future generations. The constitution was amended to ensure that the environment and health are not endangered by private economic activities. The constitution also includes animal protection.

Roberto Cingolani, Italian Minister for Ecological Transition, stated, “I think it’s an epochal moment.” In a statement. It is right that protection of the environment, biodiversity, and ecosystems should be a founding value for our Republic. This is an essential step in a country such as Italy, which is currently going through its own ecological transition.

Many natural wonders can be found in the country, including mountains and vast lakes. Many of these wonders are now under threat due to urban development and commercialisation. Cingolani called the new constitution law a strong, symbolic act that allows Italy establish clear rules for protecting the planet. But questions remain about the effectiveness of the amendment.

The Italian constitution, which has been in force since 1948, outlines broad principles. Legislation and day-today policies do not always reflect this.. Italy included the idea of balancing its state budget in its 2012 constitution, but it has never been able achieve a balanced budget for the past ten year.

There are many ways the new Constitution law can be implemented. One is for a lower Court, private individuals, or campaign groups to appeal directly to the Constitutional Court. This is a slow and tedious process. Another is for the head You can veto legislation, and ask parliament to make revisions if you feel they are not following the constitution.

The constitutional amendment is a welcome first step. Environmentalists urge greater action and updating of existing legislation regarding environmental issues.
