Rivian’s Georgia EV plant provokes environmental backlash

Residents living near the Rivian electric vehicle plant east of Atlanta, estimated to cost $5 billion, have hired an environmental lawyer to examine potential legal issues. However, they face many obstacles.

Local officials will vote over the next few weeks to rezon the property’s 2,000-acre for industrial use. Shane Short, the local development chief, stated in an interview that this would be one of the final steps for Rivian to begin construction. The site is located between Rutledge and Social Circle. Work is expected to begin this spring.
