Roy Cimatu, Environment Secretary has resigned due to health reasons

Malacaang stated in a statement that ‘We wish Secretary Cimatu health as he transitions form his decades-long and distinguished service in government to private,’

MANILA: Roy Cimatu, Philippines Environment Secretary, has resigned because of health reasons, Malacaang confirmed Friday, February 18.

The palace released a statement wishing Secretary Cimatu well as he transitions from his stellar and decades-long service to government to private life.

Jim Sampuna, the Undersecretary, was named officer-incharge.

After Gina Lopez’s death, the Commission on Appointments disqualified Cimatu from taking over as the environment chief.

Cimatu was the leader in the rehabilitation and cleanup of Manila Bay.

Malacaang also confirmed Benny Antiporda’s appointment as senior deputy administrator at the National Irrigation Administration.

“We wish Senior Deputy Administrator Antiporda success in NIA, as it advances the government’s national irrigation program towards growth in the agriculture sector,” the palace said in a statement. With reports from Pia Ranada/Rappler.com
