The Minister of Interior, OgbeniRaufAregbesola, during a tree-planting campaign in Akoko Anglican Grammar School, (AKOGRAMS), ArigidiOndo State, called on Nigerians to plant trees and save the environment for humanity.
The Minister emphasized the benefits of tree planting and conservation of forests to reduce the effects of climate change. This is in line with the 2020 Green Recovery Nigeria Programme of the current administration.
Aregbesola warned against the cutting down of trees and urged the school’s management and pupils to reconsider the forest surrounding the school as an endowment. He also urged the host community and the school to work together to preserve and maximize the forest for the benefit of all humanity.
Aregbesola spoke further and acknowledged the achievements of the school in various fields of human endeavours. She attributed it to the solid educational foundation that they received while in school.
Education is the best legacy we can leave our children. Because of their role in our success, we all owe them the responsibility of providing care, support and identification. He said that no amount of support can be too small or large for Alma Mater, regardless of who we are or what our achievements have been.
The Governor of Ondo State, ArakurinRotimiAkeredolu (SAN), also at the occasion, enumerated his administrations achievements in developing infrastructure across the State, especially in primary education, commended the Minister and the Old Students Association of AKOGRAMS for their contributions to the school and called for such support to primary school institutions which is the building block upon which other levels of education rests.
Other dignitaries were the wife of the Minister of Interior, Mrs. SherifatAregbesola; the Permanent Secretary of the FCTA, AdesolaOlusade; His Royal Majesty, The Zaki of Arigidi, Akoko, AlhajiYisaOlanipekun; members of the Ondo State Executives and Security Council; Bishop of the Akoko Anglican Diocese, Rt. Rev. J.O. Bada.
