Science and Environment Council Awarded $10,000 Grant

The Science and Environment Council The SEC recently received a $10,000 Capacity Building grant by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. Incorporated in 2001 by the SEC, the SEC celebrated its 20th year in Southwest Florida. The grant money was used to commission a study to assess the value the SEC provides its members. The study involved the interview of 14 SEC member organizations. Results 1st was a non-profit consulting firm that worked with Dr. Jennifer Shafer (SEC co-executive director) and Dr. David Shafer (SEC co-executive director). They drafted the interview questions and selected a diverse group of members in terms size, focus area, length of membership, and length.

The SEC convenes discussions, informs policy and raises public awareness about science-based conservation practices and sustainable ways to protect the natural world.
