Sen. Eric Burlisons Bill to Protect Missourians from Environmental Regulations Reaches Governors Desk – Missouri Senate

JEFFERSON – State Senator Eric Burlison, R.Battlefield is proud to announce his retirement. Senate Bill 918was agreed to and passed as a part House Bill 2485. Senate Bill 918 amends the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) process for issuing penalties. It requires the department to give the alleged violater a written explanation of why they are being issued fines and how they were calculated. DNR cannot also make rules or implement policies that are more stringent than federal Environmental Protection Agency regulations. Other provisions in HB2485 concern hazardous waste management and advanced recycle.

This provision is about transparency and accountability. Sen. Burlison, I believe DNR should be required by statute to be transparent about their practices. While I am committed to protecting our state’s most valuable resources, I also recognize that violators of the law should be made aware of how it was violated and given options to prevent it from happening again. I hope the governor will sign this legislation.

The legislation is now on its way to the governor’s desk for his consideration.
