March 18, 2018 (Reuters) – Shell announced Friday that it had applied for a license by Brazil’s environmental agency Ibama in order to generate offshore wind power in six locations in Brazil.
The six projects are located within Brazil’s states of Ceara, Rio Grande do Norte and Espirito Santo. The total installed capacity for the projects will reach 17 gigawatts.
The studies in these areas will begin in the first quarter of 2012.
“The initiative demonstrates Shell’s commitment to Brazil, and the materialization of ‘Driving Progress’ strategy, focused on decarbonization targets for the energy transformation,” the company stated in a statement.
Brazil’s government issued a decree in January that allows for the development offshore wind power generation.
