Our eighth survey on solar energy in America’s largest cities finds that The amount of solar energy installed in nine cities in the United States is more than the total amount installed in the entire United States ten years ago.The 56 cities included in this report surveyed experienced a tenfold rise in their solar power between 2014 and 2022.

For America to continue its progress in renewable energy, cities, states, and the federal government must adopt strong policies to make it easy for homeowners, businesses, utilities, and others to go solar.

Solar Superstars cities that have 100 or more watts of installed solar PV capacity per capita are the cities with most solar PV. Next comes the Solar Stars cities with more than 50 watts per capita. In 2014, only eight of the cities that were surveyed for this report had enough PV per capita to rank as Solar Stars. But, now, 34 cities have earned the title.
