South African parliament building in Cape Town catches fire

On Sunday, there was a fire at the South African parliament in Cape Town. Media coverage showed flames coming off the roof of the building. A plume of smoke could be seen from a distance.

Jean-Pierre Smith, a member of the Cape Town mayoral committee responsible for safety and security, stated that the fire started on the third floor. Smith said that the roof area has caught fire and that the National Assembly building has also caught on fire.
