Staff from Navi Mumbai Civic Body pledge to protect environment for the 30th anniversary of its founding | Navi Mumbai News

NAVI MUMBAI – On the 30th anniversary NMMC, Commissioner Abhijit Bangar stated that citizens shouldn’t hope that Covid will soon vanish. Everyone must work together and take precautions in order to prevent any damage to the public’s health.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation was founded on January 1, 1992. Sanjeev Naik was its first mayor.
Bangar, speaking on Saturday at Belapur’s NMMC head office, said that there is a lot of room for improvement in dealing with encroachments in the city and illegal structures.
He also stressed that all civic employees must maintain a professional approach while performing their duties. He gave an example of a citizen who informed him that the NMMC website had been down for three days. This meant that online complaints could not be filed.
Bangar also expressed gratitude to the frontline health workers for risking their safety in order to help Covid affected people.
All NMMC employees took an oath at the end to protect the environment and make the area cleaner and greener while reducing pollution.
The city green activists praised the pro-environment position taken by the civic body and urged the NMMC take over the custody Talawe/NRI wetland sites to allow intertidal water flow.
“We are glad that all NMMC employees, excluding the commissioner, have taken an oath to preserve the environment. I request that the NMMC remove all blockages at NRI wetland in order to allow migratory bird to continue to visit these locations. Sunil Agarwal, Save Navi Mumbai Environment group activist, said that birds typically visit these sites during high tides but are now having problems due to water blockages.
B N Kumar, director of NatConnect Foundation, praised Bangar for his unique initiative. He suggested that NMMC quickly take over the Talawe wetlands NRI (and TS Chanakya) and keep them as bird sanctuaries and move the state government.
