Stantec, an Edmonton-headquartered engineering and design consultancy, has acquired Cox McLain Environmental Consulting (CMEC), an Austin, Texas-headquartered full-service environmental consulting firm.
CMEC was established in 2007 and provides environmental planning and advisory services, regulatory compliance, clearance, historical preservation, archeology, and specialized services for the energy sector. The firm has assisted in the implementation of thousands of environmental-cultural resource projects for government agencies, private land developers, national engineering firms, and energy firms.
CMEC employs approximately 70 people in offices located in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Washington, DC.
Stantecs acquisition by CMEC will increase the firm’s US South environmental services practice. Stantec will be opening its first Oklahoma offices with new offices in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, as part of the deal.Gord Johnston is Stantec’s president, CEO and chief executive officer. CMEC will enhance our expertise, geographic depth, service offerings, and client services, particularly in the environmental, natural resource, energy services, transportation and cultural resources markets. CMEC boasts exceptional senior leadership and talented staff who can add new skillsets for our Environmental Services team that can be leveraged throughout the organization.
Following a series of investments made in Stantec’s environmental services practice, the CMEC deal is the latest. The firm in 2021 acquired the North American and Asia-Pacific businesses of Cardno, adding approximately 2,750 professionals in the US and Australia. Stantec in 2020 acquired Wenck, a Maple Plain, Minnesota-based environmental engineering firm with 300 people.
Stantec also purchased two environmental services companies, Driven by Values in the Netherlands and Paleo Solutions in California, 2021.
