Statement: Federal investment in electric trucks and buses helps to reduce air pollution, climate change emissions

Kamala Harris, Vice President, has announced grants for federal clean trucks and electric buses

WASHINGTON— Kamala Harris, Vice PresidentAnnouncementOn Monday, several initiatives were launched to reduce diesel pollution from trucks and buses. Federal funding will now become available for electric transit buses, school buses, cleaner ports vehicles and many other projects. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has proposed a rule to reduce pollution from heavy-duty trucks, which will accelerate the deployment zero-emission technology.

Heavy-duty vehicles, such as buses, emit toxic pollutants to the air, which can worsen respiratory and heart diseases, like asthma and lung cancer. Transportation-related pollution may have disproportionately largerHealth impactsThey emit more pollution than other sources and are therefore less likely to pollute the environment than other sources.

Experts from Environment America, U.S. PIRG made the following statement:

It is essential to remove the pollution from the largest trucks driving on our roads in order to slow down global warming.Environment America Destination: Zero Carbon directorMorgan Folger. It has been 20 years since the last update of truck pollution standards. The EPA’s new rule could help save lives and jumpstart the development of cleaner tractor-trailers and semi-trucks. As we shift to zero emission trucks and buses, the smog will diminish and we all will breathe easier.

You shouldn’t commute to work or go to school with toxic pollution. This will increase the risk of getting sick.Matt CasaleDirector, U.S. PIRGs Environment Campaigns. Our school districts and transit agencies are already in dire straits. This money will ensure that clean electric buses reach communities that are in greatest need. Cleaner air is possible only by investing in electric trucks and buses.
