The Environment Agency: Application made to impound water

Details about the application

The Environment Agency applied to the Secretary Of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (State Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) for a licence.

This application is being given notice by the Environment Agency in accordance with Section 37 and Regulation 6 of Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

This is a request for a license to obstruct or hinder the flow of River Foss at National Grid Reference SE64877 62247 Lilling Farm, North Yorkshire

To prevent flooding from severe floods, water will be obstructed by a flow control structure. The concrete structure would include an emergency penstock and permanent open orifice. This will allow flow to continue unassisted, except when flood conditions are present. This structure is part the York Flood Alleviation Scheme.
