The Lyon environment

This evening, the Lyon environment was a magnificent setting. Maxence Caqueret was matched with Tanguy Ndombele in a remarkable display of complementarity for their first encounter as a duo. In his sober style, the first kept kicking balloons in midfield. Once the ball was at his hands, he often made the right decision, with Toko Emambi as his partner in crime for his openings (15th, 30,th). Ndombele, for his part, recalled the good memories of Groupama Stadium. Tottenham loaned Ndombele as a midfielder, and he did a great job of defending. His tackle on Kluivert was evident, followed by a brilliant outside of the foot to launch Moussa Debele (19th). Paqueta took over offensively in the second period. This was when Nice outings were even more rare. The Brazilian dominated the defense of the Aiglons with several small bridges. It does not have a recovery at the edge of the field, which would have initalized the capital benefit of the triangle Lyon midfielder (89th). Lyon showed tonight that they may have Ligue 1’s best midfielder, even without it.

Moussa Dembole, the rebirth

Has OL found the Moussa Debele, for whom they paid 20 million to Celtic The Frenchman was once again decisive after his brilliant debut against OM. Kluivert conceded a penalty, but he was the one who took the ball. He misses his first attempt, but he has another chance because Benitez wasn’t on his line. The striker doesn’t shake twice. He adjusts the Nice goalkeeper with a stronger, better-placed strike. Karl Toko Ekambi received the second goal. He proved to be decisive once again. In the meantime, the center forward regaled in a register which we knew less about, all of it in technique. The evidence was provided by his wheel to get rid off the pressing. The striker was often criticized for his poor ball skills. And, above all, he’s already scored 8 goals this season.

Toko-Ekambi, the eater of space

Karl Toko-Ekambi, back from the CAN, showed his best face. This is the face of a player who eats everything on his side, who transplants in the Axis and always finds solutions to his problems with his ingenious calls. He exploited his speed to beat a Daniliuc on his left side. He is rewarded with Lyon’s second goal. Faivre’s strike makes the ball reach Moussa Dembele on the left side of the surface. The scorer raises his eyebrows and serves his partner at far post with a plate. Toko needs to push the ball into empty nets. To score the 12th goal in all competitions. He departs with his French sidekick, much to the applause of a conquered Groupama Stadium.

FLOPS

Delort made a mistake

It’s difficult to make a list of everything Andy Delort missed tonight, as he was so transparent. The Algerian – who didn’t come out of the game – was never found by his teammates. And the few times he did have interesting balls to negotiate, he wasted them. This 3 against 3 scene is where he loses his ball (12th). Or when he fails to secure a pass for Gouiri, and instead burns one of the rare Riviera cartridges (17th). He refuses to take a shot if he is alone in the area or has enough space to roll up (45th). Le Fennec would rather try a risky pass to Gouiri in the forest of legs, even though he’s tried more complicated passes. His second period is the same except that he has fewer balls.

Gallier was wrong

Nice technician decided to renew the team that had outclassed Marseille in the beginning of the week. The only change was the return of Lemina (Benitez) and Lemina (instead of Bulka and Rosario. While the first performed its role with decisive parades the second did not seem to fit into his game. It was all of the offensive and defensive animation (see below), that failed this evening. Galette wanted to focus too much on his team’s counter-qualitys, but he forgot that it was important to do more than just clean up the recovery. The Nice people created some imbalances, especially when they projected themselves, notably by Kluivert. These offensives were not enough and the Aiglons could not find a solution to the oppressive opposing pressure.

Superb side!

The 64 minutes Flavius Daniliuc spent playing in the play area were a long way from the cross. Toko-Ekambi, the Cameroonian faced him and the young Austrian suffered. Unable to resist the winger’s speed, he systematically lost his one-on-ones. After the hour mark, he was replaced and the right side has seen some stability due to Lotomba’s arrival. While Youcef Attal was again injured, it will be necessary to find a solution. Melvin Bard was able to win the match but Lyonnais was still hurt. After receiving a nudge by Lucas Paqueta, he left several minutes later. He will end the match with a homemade bandage covering half his face. This will not stop him from suffering against Romain Faivre. He is less restless and more determined than his attacking teammates. Tonight, the left-side confirmed the difficulties that he has been facing for several weeks.
