ATHENS – Studies and clean-up actions to substantially strengthen fire protection are proceeding immediately, as the Environment and Energy Ministry, in cooperation with the HRDH, announced that it has applied for 50 million euros funding for the “Forest Protection Program” to the Recovery Fund.
Environment and Energy Minister Costas Skrekas stated: “With the Forest Protection Program we are shielding our forests from the risk of future catastrophic fires. We are redesigning the prevention policy and formulating a new national forest strategy for the coming decades.”
“It is our duty to protect our natural heritage from the great challenges of the climate crisis and to pass it on to the next generations. The protection of forest ecosystems requires organized actions throughout the year,” he underlined.
