The Tribune India – Environment is not on any party’s agenda

Tribune News Service

Patiala (February 15).

Key issues like environment and rising polluting have been put on the back burner while party leaders are busy talking nonsense during their campaigns.

Despite rising water and air pollution in Punjab, political parties are still failing to address the issue adequately during their rallies. The key issue is not being addressed in interactions or rallies, with politicians focusing more on providing freebies and improving roads.

While environment activists continue to demand the inclusion of the ‘Green Manifesto’ during polls for a systematic solution to the menace, the issue is not being openly addressed. The promises of pollution and ways to combat it are not being kept, even though the manifestos of all parties include them. “The recent spike in air pollution is something that needs to be added to the manifesto of all political parties,” says environment activist Balbir Singh Seechewal. —
