Launched by a U.K.-based comparison site Compare the MarketThe social media carbon emissions calculator allows users to calculate how much carbon they are releasing while scrolling through their favorite social media feeds. According to the site TikTok has the largest carbon footprint of all the major social media platforms. It emits 2.63 gCOEq per minute. Reddit is close behind at 2.48 gCOEq. Instagram, Snapchat, and Pinterest round out the top five, with 1.05, 1.05, and 0.87 respectively. YouTube was at the opposite end of the spectrum with 0.46 gCOEq per min total carbon emissions. Twitch, Twitter, Twitch, and LinkedIn are the other social media apps that are relatively friendly to the environment. LinkedIn is 0.71 gCOEq/minute while LinkedIn is 0.55 gCOEq/minute. Facebook is 0.79 gCOEq/minute.
