Toronto residents are reminded to be cautious today as Environment Canada issued an alert for the city’s blizzard earlier in the morning.

On Monday, January 17, all of Southern Ontario, including the Greater Toronto Area was hit by a massive snowstorm. It is expected to dump approximately 40 cm of snow on Toronto by the time it ends later today.

At one point this morning, snow was reportedly falling at between four to seven centimetres per hour and that was also combined with high winds to bring about the “blizzard” conditions.

It is extremely difficult to travel across the city’s roads. Residents who live in hilly areas like the Beach should not attempt to drive today.

Snow is expected throughout the day, but it will start to melt by late afternoon.

Both the Toronto Catholic District Schools Board and Toronto District School Board announced that schools will be closing today. However, learning will continue online.
