CSX was awarded a Toyota Logistics Services 2022 Environmental Leadership Award for delivering innovative sustainability solutions. The Class I railroad reported this on May 13.
Toyota Logistics Services presented CSXThree of the four previous years have seen the award for the annual award. CSX cited the recognition as an example of the Class I railroads’ innovative approach to environmental improvement. It involved upgrading air compressor systems at rail yards throughout the network. The train delays were often caused by operational and maintenance problems in the outdated systems.
The dual-redundant smart system developed by CSX is expected to provide an improved air load percentage for testing; reduce total system run time; reduce energy consumption; improve fuel efficiency and decrease greenhouse gas emissions.
CSX Director of Fuel Strategy and Utilization Corey Davis explained that crews can now perform air brake testing while the engine is running. This increases CSX’s operational efficiency, drives value for customers, and helps us reduce our carbon footprint and protect our environment.
