Two elephants were killed by train in Odisha

A forest officer in Odisha said that two elephants were killed by a goods train in Khurda district.

He said that a four-year-old tusker was killed on the spot and that a 10-year old female pachyderm died from injuries sustained in a forest near the Tangi railway station, Bhusandpur.

The incident occurred as a herd consisting of eight elephants crossed the railway tracks and headed towards farmlands to find food.

Locals discovered the carcasses, and informed Tangi Forest Division.

Both the Railways and Forest Department launched separate investigations into this incident.

B K Arukha, the Minister of Forest and Environment in the State, said that 14 elephants died from train accidents in the winter session of the Assembly.
