URCs Thailand unit bags environment award

Universal Robina Corp.’s Thailand subsidiary (URC), has been awarded the Good Environmental Governance Award 2021, for two of its facilities located at the Samut Sakhon Industrial Estate in southwest Bangkok.

It’s an honor for us to be recognized for our excellent business conduct across all aspects of our operations, said Tanant Swanraks (general manager at URC Thailand).

He said that this award motivates us to improve our sustainability practices and ensure we meet good environmental governance standards.

Dr. Veeris ammarapala, governor of Thailand’s Industrial Estate Authority, presented the award in recognition of URC Thailand plants 4 and 6.

The company received the same Good Environmental Governance Award in 2018 for plants 1 and 3.

URC Thailand has been in operation since 1992. It currently operates five manufacturing facilities.  It produces some of Thailand’s most popular snacks under Jack n Jill. These include Dewberry and Cream-O, Roller Coaster, Tivoli and Tivoli.

The two URC Thailand plants met the criteria of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand. These included transparency, information accessibility, accuracy, community participation in problem solving, transparency, rule of law legitimacy, justice principles, and returning benefits to society.

Suwanraks said that as we live up our purpose of delighting Thais with delicious food choices, we will strive to be more environmentally responsible and prioritize business conduct through the URGreen program.

URC Thailand established goals for its URGreen program last year in line with six sustainability focus areas set by its parent company, URC Philippines. URC has been actively spearheading projects to help improve peoples capabilities leading to better livelihood (People & Communities); to move towards a low-carbon economy (Climate Action); to improve water efficiency and protect watersheds (Water); to improve its product portfolio (Product); to reduce its packaging footprint (Packaging); and to promote responsible sourcing of key ingredients (Sourcing).  These initiatives align with the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals.
