US decarbonization should be halted by the Ukraine crisis

Ukraine crisis should end rapid US decarbonization

[ad_1]

NATO’s weaknesses and Russian disdain for Biden’s administration have been exposed in the Ukraine crisis. It also signals the end to the White House’s decarbonization policies.

Russia has tried for years to use its fossil fuels energy resources to weaken NATO. Russian President Vladimir PutinVladimir Vladimirovich PutinPutin said that Macron talks’ proposals could be used as a “basis” for further steps. Overnight Defense & National Security — US, Germany unite in face of Russian threat Biden and Scholz offer an example of unity between Germany and the USA amid Russian threats LEARN MORE’s “PhD thesis” was on this strategy. He has been working for over 20 years to establish a network of Russian pipelines to Europe in order to control the main sources of energy for the major NATO countries. Europe receives over 80% of its energy from Russia. One-third of its natural gaz is exported.Russia supplies both crude oil imports and some of its supplies.

Russia has mainly focused on Germany. Germany has been reliant on Russia for natural gas and oil imports over the past few decades, especially under former Chancellor Angela Merkel. It is Counting on Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline will supply its core residential, industrial and industrial energy requirements. As part of Germany’s Russian strategic energy connection, Merkel’s predecessor, Gerhard Schröder, serves as chairman of the Russian energy company, Rosneft

Nord Stream 2 can also be used to support an attack against Ukraine. It can divert gas from the southern pipeline that runs through Ukraine, reducing Ukraine’s annual gas transport fees by around $2 billion, undermining the Ukraine economy. It is necessary to supplement the European Union (EU), in order to transport this diverted gas via Nord Stream 2 in order to comply with EU guidelines. Gazprom gas with Rosneft gas — the tangled German/Russian web.

France and other NATO countries follow the German lead. And President BidenJoe BidenFox News host Brian Kilmeade slams Trump’s Arizona election claim: “That is an outright lie.” Putin said that Macron talks’ proposals could be used as a “basis” for further steps. Biden will appoint the son of Sen. John McCain to the Naval Academy board LEARN MORE’s attacks on America’s oil and gas sectors reduce our ability to offset Russian energy blackmail of NATO with U.S. liquified natural gas (LNG) exports.

Thus, faced with the prospect of Russian interference with their critical industrial and residential energy supplies, especially during the winter months, it is little wonder that our NATO allies have resisted any serious confrontation and sanctions on Russia’s likely invasion of Ukraine. If Biden was successful in imposing sanctions against Nord Stream 2, it could drive a wedge between Germany and America. Oil and gas are better weapons than nuclear missiles.

Russia has been playing the long-game to use energy to support Russian expansion and weaken NATO. Putin plays chess well — Biden plays checkers badly.

What does this all mean for American decarbonization efforts? Paris Accords,  Biden’s disastrous Glasgow Climate conferenceXi Jinping’s follow-up video conference? It means that rapid decarbonization has ended. Only the U.S. federal government and several state governments, as well as some utility boards, seem to be able to ignore this fact.

California is an example of a state that has been aggressive in responding to rapidly changing circumstances. shutting downNuclear power plants and fossil fuel production. The result: very high utility prices to customers, regular outages from a poorly maintained grid, where maintenance may have been deferred to bring more “sustainable” energy (wind and solar) on-line, and wildfires ignited by these poorly maintained grids. The end result was Gov. Gavin NewsomGavin NewsomCalifornia to repeal the mandate that masks be used for vaccinating children next week The Memo: Stacey Abrams is furious over a photo that was taken without a mask DHS chief to review security operations at Los Angeles in the lead up to Super Bowl LEARN MORE was forced to import fossil fuel energy from other states (similar to the Germany/Russia situation) because of what he called the unreliability of California’s wind and solar power generation.

Similarly, Biden’s surrender of America’s energy independence, discouraging oil, gas and coal exploration, production and usage, led to his begging Middle Eastern oil states to We need your help! — at high cost and strategic risk to America.

In a nutshell, by responding to climate change hysteria, America’s decarbonization policies completely ignore several inconvenient truths.

It is absurd to shut down nuclear and fossil fuel energy production before there are enough wind or solar capacity to replace them.

Next, American solar and wind cannot store energy and can not consistently deliver power during night and windless periods. To support a transition from predominantly solar and wind, it will require battery storage capacity equal to the power generation from the discarded oil/gas/nuclear power system. This is 40-50 quads compared to current American. Battery storage capacityLower than 10 quads. Policymakers seem to have not grasped that nuclear and fossil fuels are “nature’s batteries”; they store and deliver energy whenever you need it. Solar and wind cannot.

Switching to solely electric power for industry, transportation and consumer use requires upgrading and expanding (more than doubling) America’s power grid and hardening it against sabotage.

Only utility-level sun can produce energy at a price that is comparable to non-subsidized fossil fuels.

The future is decades away from sufficient and economically-utilitarian utility-level solar power production, grid expansion and upgrades, as well as sufficient battery storage capacity. If we impulsively shut down America’s fossil fuel supplies and power generation, we’ll simply be forced to buy fossil fuels and energy from foreign sources.

Our principal adversaries aren’t following us. China is massively ExpandIts coal-fired electricity generation. Russia and Middle Eastern countries are making huge gains selling high-priced oil, gas and other commodities to Europe and us. The Paris Accords as well as the Glasgow climate conference are tools to deceive America into further self-destruction.

The situation in Ukraine makes it clear: Biden’s crushing of U.S. energy independence represents a strategic surrender to Russia, China and Middle East autocrats.

Biden is losing NATO and does not have a viable or phased strategy to decarbonize. destroying America’s economyand global strategic leverage, and, most importantly, is doing nothing to address climate change.
