KUALA LUMPUR : Virtual reality (VR), technology is being used to aid in environmental management. This includes water sources. It will also increase understanding and commitment from communities towards environmental sustainability.
Datuk Seri Ir Zaini, Secretary-General Environment and Water Ministry, stated that digital technology such as VR can also help communities gain a deeper understanding of environmental problems and the responsibility of individuals and organisations in their water sustainability efforts.
VR is a digital element combination method that makes it easier to present material in a more engaging and understandable way to raise public awareness about the importance environment, particularly water sources.
This VR technology was created in a joint partnership between researchers from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, (UTM) and Teras Birkat (M) Sdn Bhd. Currently there are three sustainable VR modules for water, rivers, climate change.
He said that the water source integrated managed system using this VR technology will be exhibited at the Department of Irrigation and Drainage’s (DID) exhibition, which is part of the 2022 World Water Day celebrations today in Pahang.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob was the one who had previously officiated the launch at Taman Awam Bera Bera in Pahang of the national level World Water Day 2022 celebrations.
