Wall art around Korattur lake features paintings with messages about the environment

Walls surrounding a Korattur lake are decorated with environmental messages. The beautification drive was undertaken by a group of students who braved the heat to paint the walls over the past five days.

Korattur Aeri Padhukappu Makkal Iyakkam, a citizen group involved in lake conservation, took the initiative to transform walls around the lake near Ondiveeran Koil Street in Korattur into a colorful canvas. The activity was carried out by a group of 28 students and six teachers representing Korattur Nalli Kopuswami Vivekananda Vinyalaya.

KAPMI volunteers are engaged in fencing portions of the lake which are at risk of being emptied near Ondiveeran Koil Street.

KAPMI’s S. Sekharan stated that 70m of the lake had been fenced and saplings were planted to prevent waste dumping.

Saturday’s efforts to fence 500m of the lake area near DTP Colony were funded by Tamilnadu Petroproducts Ltd. KAPMI members urged the State government to take measures to protect a large part of the lake, near Karukku and Ambattur.
