Environment Award winner announced in Laois Community & Voluntary Awards

The Laois Community and Voluntary Awards Environment Award honors groups and individuals who have worked to improve and enhance their community and/or locality from a socio-environmental perspective and create a sense a pride and inclusion in their region.

The nominees for this category were:

  • Portarlington Community Development Association
  • Camross Tidy Towns
  • Abbeyleix Tidy Towns
  • Clonaslee Tidy Cities

This category had: Camross Tidy Towns

The Environment Category Winner of the Laois Community & Voluntary Awards 2021 was: Abbeyleix Tidy Towns.

Brigid Geoghegan (Westmeath PPN) is the judge in this category.

“Abbeyleix Tidy Towns deserve to be commended on the extraordinary diversity of work they are doing and are associated. Their application demonstrated a clear central focus on the environment/climate action, including their Biodiversity Action Plan and Energy Master Plan, Climate Action Project and Street Art Project.

“Abbeyleix Tidy Towns demonstrates a tremendous commitment and clear understanding and appreciation of the need for preservation and maintenance of what is best in our natural environment, as well as saving and maintaining sensitive habitats within clear climate action goals.

“All this is done in collaboration with many other groups and organizations, businesses, communities and communities to achieve common conservation goals with pride and inclusion.

The awards, which are supported by Laois Volunteer Centre & the Leinster Express, were streamed live via the Laois County Council Facebook page and website on Friday, February 11.
