Environment Canada issues an extreme cold warning

Environment Canada reports that wind chill values close to minus 30 are possible this morning.

WEATHER ALERT
ENVIRONMENT CANADA
*************************
Extreme Cold Warning in Effect for:

  • Barrie – Collingwood – Hillsdale
  • Midland – Coldwater Lake – Orr Lake
  • Orillia – Lagoon City– Washago

The coldest period continues.

Hazard:
Wind chill values as low as minus 30

When:
This morning.

Impacts:

Young children, older adults, those with chronic illnesses, people who exercise outdoors or work outside, and those without shelter are at greater risk.

Look out for symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath and muscle pain and weakness. Also, look out for numbness or colour changes in fingers and toes.

Make sure you dress warmly. Layers that you can take off if you become too warm are a good idea. The outer layer should resist wind.

If it’s too cold to go outside, it’s too frigid for your pet.
