To meet net-zero carbon emission by 2070, it is necessary to accelerate environmentally-friendly projects: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed Tuesday that it was important to accelerate environmentally-friendly projects. He also said that green financing is essential to meet the 2070 target of net zero carbon emissions.

Speaking at a post-budget webinar on ‘Financing for growth and aspirational economy’, Modi said that India has set a target of net-zero carbon emissions by the year 2070. Accelerating environment-friendly projects is essential to speed up this process.

Modi stated that startups can only grow when the government encourages entrepreneurship and places emphasis on innovation.

“The financing sector needs to look at new futuristic ideas, innovative financing of initiatives and sustainable risk management,” he said.

The prime minister stated that the government had taken many steps to sustain the momentum for rapid growth in the Budget 2022-22-23. He said that by encouraging foreign investment, reducing taxes on infra, creating institutions like NIIF and Gift City, as well as new DFIs, government had tried to accelerate financial growth.
