Residents are urged to clean their environment by the government

Lagos State Government has advised residents that they should cooperate with the state government and operators of Private Sector Participation in order to maintain a clean environment.

In a statement, Mr Ibrahim Odumboni the Managing Director of Lagos Waste Management Authority stated this on Sunday. He added that the agency was ready to meet residents’ waste management needs during and after Easter festivities.

He stated that LAWMA would make every effort to ensure that the season is celebrated in a clean environment. Given the expected increase in waste production during the period, we have intensified our advocacy campaigns in order to educate residents about the importance of environmental sustainability in their localities.

PSP operators are required to perform optimally in their assigned areas. The authority provides backup operations to fill service gaps. All the district heads in the state have been mandated to double the effort and support the PSP operations to make sure there is no gap.

We have also taken concrete steps to speed up the disposal of waste trucks. This will ensure that there is no delay at landfills.

Odumboni also advised citizens to pay their waste management bills on time and to support the PSP they have been assigned.

We want to encourage the population to bag their waste and patronise the assigned PSP operator and pay their waste management bill promptly. We implore residents not to do any act that can degrade the environment and appeal motorists to drive with caution to protect the lives of street sweepers or other service providers who are performing their duties, he said.
