Illustrative Image (Source: VNA).Hanoi (VNA) – A consultation workshop was jointly held by the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environments, ISPONRE, and the German Agency for International Cooperation. VietnamTo discuss environmental criteria for green credit projects or issuing green bonds.
Nguyen Dinh Th, Director of ISPONRE, addressed the event. He stated that his institute, GIZ Vietnam, and experts from both home and abroad had discussed and set objectives for green development and the growth a circular economy in Vietnam. The country is now taking steps to fulfill its pledges at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference, (COP26), to reduce its carbon emissions to zero by 2050.
Tho noted that the ISPONRE was involved in finalizing regulations on green credit (and green bonds) in the 2020 Law on Environment Protection. Tho cited particular rules on the roadmap and incentives to provide green credit. It also contributed to the development of a guideline for green bond issuance as stipulated by Decree No.08/2022/NDCP dated January 10, 2022.
He stated that a draft was completed on environmental standards and how certification should be provided for green bonds or green credit projects. He noted that the draft is expected to serve as a useful tool to state agencies, financial and bank institutions, to help them decide which projects are environmentally-friendly and classify them by sector and environmental benefits.
Experts and representatives of ministries, agencies, companies, and international organizations presented various initiatives, especially in the building of a green list.
The ISPONRE will use the outcome of the event to prepare a draft decision for the Prime Minister’s decision on issuance regulation on environmental criteria for green credits and green bond projects.
