A family-owned pet food business that offers American-made non-GMO pet foods is helping the environment.
Based in Hatfield, and founded by Rob and Mary Jo Downey in 1986, Annamaet Petfoods offers diets formulated by owner and CEO Rob Downey – an author and speaker with many nutritional studies published in peer-reviewed journals – along with an on-staff Board Certified Veterinary Nutritionist.
Annamaet Petfoods was always mindful of sustainable business practices. But, the company recently decided to do more for the future. “Annamaet’s pioneering efforts are paving the way for a more sustainable pet industry,” the company said.
Annamaet Petfoods offers a range of diets that are sustainable and certified by the Marine Stewardship Council. MSC is the gold-standard in marine sustainability, as they can trace certified fish back to their boat of origin.
Annamaet’s products are made with sustainable ingredients. However, its packaging is now recyclable and sustainable. It’s made with Bio-Flex materials that are specifically engineered to biodegrade in landfills and during this process create green, renewable and sustainable energy. Its packaging is now part of the circular economic and can create value from materials that would otherwise be considered trash.
Packaging that isn’t made with BioFlex can take up to 900 year to break down. BioFlex is today one of the most eco-friendly packaging options.
Annamaet is named after Rob’s mother, Anna Mae, who had a real soft spot in her heart for animals.
Annamaet supports small businesses in the area, since opening its doors 35 years ago.
