Baagh Eco Motors has launched its eco-friendly two-wheelers, and three-wheelers on Thursday. Its goal is to stop the use of hazardous lead-acid battery to reduce pollution.
Kazi Zashimul Islam, president of Baagh Eco Motors, made the announcement at a press conference held at the National Press Club in Dhaka.
The speakers stated that they were aiming to replace the 40 lakh vehicles that used hazardous acid-lead battery technology with lithium-ion batteries and solar energy with all safety standards. This would reduce the environmental pollution.
Kazi Zashimul Islam said, ‘Our aim is not to harm those people who make a living by vehicles using lead-acid batteries. We are offering an exchange offer to them for our product, with a minimum downpayment. They will give the money through EMI with zero per cent interest.’
‘They can also give the money on a daily basis. All passengers will make payments digitally,’ he said, adding that the price of three-wheelers would be around Tk 6 lakh with an offer on first-party insurance for two years and free registration.
The two-wheelers will cost Tk 1 lakh and will have free registration, he added.
He stated that Bengal Battery Limited would be setting up 5,000 charging stations in the country for users within five years.
He stated that 10 electric environment-friendly buses would be launched by the company by June 2023.
‘If someone meet accidents while driving or riding those vehicles, s/he will receive Tk 1 lakh in compensation,’ he added.
Baagh Eco Motors chief executive officer Mohammad Enamul Hoque said, ‘Each of the vehicles can run up to 100 kilometres in one-time charge. The vehicles can reach their top speed of 45 kilometres per hour, according to the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology.’
Afzal Hossain, an Ekushey Padak winner, was the chief guest. Nahid Nawrin Jahan (Baagh managing director) and Robi Axiata Limited vice president Fahmidul Hasan also spoke at the press conference.
