CAIRO – 19 Feb 2022: The Egyptian Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad met with Lorenzo Simonelli and his accompanying delegation on Saturday. According to the statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Environment,

Simonelli and the Minister discussed bilateral cooperation at the national and international levels in the field of environmentally friendly fuel and energy technology. They also exchanged experiences in dealing with global environmental issues, according to the statement.

Fouad stated, “The Egyptian environment and petroleum sectors” have taken necessary steps to reduce the pollution arising from the oil sector. They also encourage the private sector to adopt an approach that balances the preservation of natural resources with the expansion of fuel and other energy.

Fouad clarified that the volume of emissions from the petroleum sector  contributes 3% of Egypt’s total volume of emissions, saying “we are, however, interested in examining ways to reduce the emissions of this sector by adopting the appropriate technology.”

For his part, Mr. Lorenzo Simonelli affirmed his company’s keenness to develop and find ways and technology that are most compatible with the environment. He provided examples and models of recent findings to support international and local companies in the energy sector, both in the short- and long-term.

“Natural gas is the most appropriate source of energy for developing countries, so we are working on zero-emission gas liquefaction technology and green gas compressors,” he said.

He expressed his company’s willingness to collaborate with Egypt in ecofriendly technology of electricity and in hydrogen as an alternative source of energy, green or hydrogen.
