Ludhiana – Angered by the indifference of political parties to the seriousness of the pollution problem and its effects on environment, activists have joined forces to hold an environment awareness march on the banks at Buddha Nullah on Tuesday, February 10. Because it is heavily polluted, they chose Buddha Nullah to lead the march. The activists will be led Balbir Singh Seechewal, an environmentalist.
The march will start at Gurdwara Gaughat. It will reach Chand Cinema bridge. The activists invite candidates running for election from here to take part in this awareness rally. Candidates can either go to Gurdwara Gaughat, or near Chand Cinema, and get a green manifesto from Seechewal. The activists will then travel towards Gaunspur and Wallipur, where the polluted Buddha Nullah is a major problem.
Jaskirat Singh, Punjab Naroa Manch, said that when we conducted the first programme, and asked politicians for their environmental policies, not many people showed interest. Several of the nominees at the Amritsar event promised to work for the environment. We have therefore decided to organize this march in an effort to give a final push to our efforts.
Rajesh Jain (a resident of Mahavir Enclave) said, “The number of children who have learning disabilities is on a rise.” Buddha Nullah, the evil that is causing death, is not under discussion. Hospitals are not the best place for health. Instead, clean air, water, and a healthy environment are essential. Let us demand that politicians live. Only this development is possible if life lasts.
Sanjay Talwar, Congress MLA said that if we weren’t serious about environment and Buddha Nullah then we wouldn’t be able to start its rejuvenation. All pollution will be eliminated once the project is completed. We are committed to the environment. In East constituency, we created a leisure area on barren ground.
Akali Dal candidate for North constituency RD Sharma stated, I am contesting assembly elections for my first time. Since Day One, my pledge has been to ensure that the drain is free from pollution. I also promised potable water supply to residents. This promise I will keep at all costs.
