Caldwell County Health Department Restructures Environmental Health

Caldwell County Health Department recently restructured the Environment Health Division to increase efficiency and provide more growth opportunities for employees.

The new structure will see the Food and Lodging department consist of a Program Specialist and an Environmental Health Specialist in Food and Lodging. The Food and Lodging staff is responsible for inspecting restaurants, hotels, and other establishments. The Onsite staff inspects wells and septic tanks and includes a Program Specialist as well as two Environment Health Specialists. The new organizational chart also includes a second supervisor.

“Until now Environmental Health staff had little opportunity for growth,” explained Public Health Director Anna Martin. “With the new structure, staff members have opportunities for promotions and salary increases as they earn their environmental health primary authorization and certifications.”

The new structure offers staff the opportunity to grow and also increases the number of inspections that the department can perform.

“By adding a program specialist to both the Food and Lodging and the onsite teams, we increase the number of employees available to do inspections and ensure each team has a registered environmental health specialist to oversee inspections,” said Martin. “With these changes, we can better serve Caldwell County.”
