Climate School Dean Wins Environmental Champion Award

Maureen Raymo was co-founding director at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and dean of Columbia Climate School. Recently, Elijah Reichlin-Melnick awarded her an Environmental Champion Award.

The award was presented to her on April 22, 2022, at a ceremony held at the Louis Engel Waterfront Park, Ossining, NY. The award recognizes the observatory’s contributions to the community through the making of historical discoveries in earth and environment science. Hudson River Field Station, a hub of scientific research and environmental education.

Senator Reichlin Melnick said that we are fortunate to have a world-class research center, the Lamont DohertyEarth Observatory, right in the Hudson Valley. The Hudson River Field Station hosts hundreds local students and community members who can learn about the environment and take steps to make their community safer.

Professor Raymo stated that she accepted this honor on behalf all her colleagues at Lamont-Doherty. We hope to strengthen our ties with the community and continue to support the environment and education in the region.

The Environmental Champion Award was established to recognize and celebrate the hard work that is being done to make New York State, Hudson Valley and the planet a better, cleaner, greener, more sustainable place to live. Raymo was among nine recipients.
