Tegucigalpa (Honduras), March 8, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE). Dinant is proud announces the publication of its first Sustainability Report using Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).GRI) standards to measure the economic, social and environmental impact of the Companys operations. The report demonstrates Dinants alignment to many of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (http://www.unsustainability.org/).SDGs).

Miguel Mauricio Facusse (Executive President of Dinants) stated that Dinants operations have the potential to bring about transformative change in many parts. We are conscious of the critical role we have to play in tackling climate change, defending human rights, promoting gender equality, and contributing to overall social well being. We are examining the impact that we have on the environment, society, and economy. I am happy to report that we have maintained very high standards on all fronts and are making progress towards several UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The Dinants Sustainability Report 2019-20 lists many highlights, including:

  • Dinant is an Engaged member of the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human RightsInternationally accepted benchmark that governs how security personnel are vetted, recruited, and trained. Dinant was the first Honduran business to sign the Voluntary Principles and the first agrobusiness to be accepted.

  • Dinants’ high-tech biogas extraction unit at its oil mill in Agun uses biomass from palm fruit waste to produce clean energy. The steam is used to heat the boilers. Since 2008, this facility has produced over 121,000,000 m of biogas. This has reduced the use of fossil fuels to a mere 10 million gallons.

  • Dinant manages the breeding, rearing, and release of endangered species such as jaguars, red macaws, and green iguana at two Wildlife Conservation Centers in Honduras.

  • Two prestigious International Sustainability and Carbon Certifications ISCC EU and ISCC Plus were awarded to Dinants palm oils extraction mills and plantations located in the Lean and Agun regions in Honduras. These certifications recognize the sustainability of raw materials, traceability of supply chains, and control over greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Dinant has funded 12 elementary and high school teachers to be employed in the Lean and Agun valleys. This direct education program (along with infrastructure improvements) has helped more than 300 children annually and more than 3,900 children since its inception.

  • Dinant is a founding member of the Honduras Food Bank and has donated more that 26,000kgs of food to support vulnerable people in the country.

Dinant has worked hard in order to increase production capacity and reduce its environmental impact. It has created more jobs for Hondurans and supported an increasing number of independent suppliers. It has also maintained strict quality standards.

Roger Pineda Pinel from Dinants, Director of Corporate Responsibility, and Sustainability, said, We have done a lot as we strive for sustainability in our business. However, we know there are many things we can do to improve transparency and ensure that our operations, from the production process through delivery of final products, have a positive impact on the environment. We are pleased with this first step, and we look forward to improving our performance next year.

These and other initiatives include water and waste management, emissions control, sustainable packaging, equal opportunity for all employees and applicants, community engagement, and water and wastewater management. Read the Dinants Sustainable Report 2019-20 English here.
