DNR to host virtual public meeting on Draft Environmental Impact Statement regarding proposed Enbridge Line 5 Pipeline Transfer

MADISON, Wis.  The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will host a virtual public hearing on Feb. 2 on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement that the department has prepared for the proposed relocation of the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline in Ashland, Bayfield and Iron Counties.

Enbridge, Inc. proposed to build approximately 41 miles a new 30-inch-diameter crude oils pipeline to move its Line 5 pipeline out of tribal lands. The company proposes to abandon approximately 20 miles of its existing Line 5 pipeline that is 30-inch in diameter, including the section that crosses the Bad River Reservation.

To inform decision-makers and the general public about the potential environmental and socioeconomic impacts of proposed relocations and other alternatives, the DNR has prepared a Draft Environmental Statement.

The virtual hearing will start at 4 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2022 via Zoom. To attend the hearing, and to make oral comments Register in-advance.

You will need to fill out the registration form with your name, contact information, and indicate whether you would like to speak at the hearing. After registering, you will be sent a confirmation email with information about joining the meeting online.

Members of public who do not wish for to give testimony at the hearing, but just want to watch the proceedings live, can view a live feed. The DNRs YouTube Channel.

The public is encouraged and encouraged to send written comments via email or regular mail on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement. You can submit electronic and hardcopy comments anytime before Friday, March 4, 2022.

The DNR will take into consideration all comments received during this comment period. The Final Environmental Impact statement will be completed and the public will receive notification. After the Environmental Impact Statement is completed, permit decisions cannot be made.
