Eagle Mountain hiring biologist/environmental planner for city | News, Sports, Jobs

Eagle Mountain City is looking to hire a wildlife biologist/environmental planner to help inform future city planning decisions while keeping the citys unique ecosystem in mind.

Eagle Mountain is a relatively rural area that is home to a wide range of bird species and wildlife migration routes. Eagle Mountain’s population is increasing at a rate of 5,000 to 7,000 people per year (more than 1,500 additional housing units/year). This presents a challenge. Tyler Maffitt, Eagle Mountain City spokesperson wrote in an email to Daily Herald.

The City is currently looking to hire a wildlife biologist to assess the wildlife present and make recommendations about migration, nesting, and mating seasons. for better residential and business development.

The Eagle Mountain website has posted the job description. It is a full-time position that can be done hourly and offers full benefits such as vision, medical, pension, and more.

The wildlife biologist/environmental planner will be a part of the community planning division and will serve a variety of functions, including:

  • Information to city officials, colleagues, and the public about the potential effects of development projects on wildlife habitat and natural topography [potential]Construction
  • Planning for open space and wildlife preservation
  • Recommendations for wildlife and riparian protection areas
  • Proposing and/or writing zoning codes that balance wildlife habitat protection with development rights
  • Participating in, or performing studies related to the development of land use policies
  • Presenting findings and recommendations to the head of department and/or Planning Commission or City Council
  • Field inspections are conducted to determine, follow up on the environmental effects of development projects and ensure compliance with environmental laws.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing with the public, industry professionals, colleagues, and with city decision makers (e.g. City Planning Commission, Mayor & City Council).

This individual would be the staff member to Eagle Mountains Development Review Committee, Planning Commission, and City Council. They would also help prepare agendas for these groups and report back to them. The employee will also conduct studies and prepare reports. They will keep detailed logs and present public presentations based on their research.
