Environment Canada labels 2021 most violent and destructive weather year on record

Environment Canada’s senior climate scientist, David Phillips, has released the Top Ten weather events of 2021.

The list’s top spot was occupied by the record-breaking heatwave in British Columbia this year.

Number 2..B-Cs devastating rainstorms that caused flooding and landslides last week.

The drought that ravaged large swathes of the prairies last summer is Number Three.

Phillips states that Canada hasn’t experienced a similar cycle in destructive weather events over the 26 years he’s been compiling the report. He says this is a reflection on the effects of climate.
