Environment Canada issues a warning about deep freeze

Environment Canada has issued an Extreme Cold Warning (ECW) for Cochrane and several other areas in southern Alberta.

The wind chill values are expected to be below -40 this morning before moderating this afternoon, but then they’re expected to drop to -40 or colder on Tuesday night.

The extreme cold will likely persist until the middle part of the week.

We’re being reminded to watch for cold related symptoms which include shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

Layers are a good idea if you’re going to be outside.

The warning also includes:

  • Mountain View Co., near Carstairs & Stirlingville
  • Mountain View Co. in Cremona and Water Valley
  • Mountain View Co., near Olds and Didsbury
  • Mountain View Co. near Sundre
  • Rocky View Co. in Crossfield and Airdrie
  • Rocky View Co., near Bottrel & Madden
