Environment groups claim that there are approximately 150,000 new homes too close by Schiphol.

In the area around Schiphol, at least 150,000 homes are expected to be built over the next few years. However, environmental organizations claim that this is happening in areas where there is too much noise from aircrafts for healthy living.

According to research done by the Nature and Environment Federations of Noord- and Zuid-Holland 115 new-build sites are affected. They are based in part on noise pollution guidelines issued by the World Health Organization. Building plans within 20-40 kilometers of the airport are considered to be excessively hazardous.

“The health of approximately 300,000 future residents living in the area of Schiphol is at risk. The organizations also mention 1.5 to 2 Million people who already live in the area. They believe that the shrinking Schiphol airport should reduce aircraft noise.
