Environment Min Bhupendra Yadav states that India will play a major part in the 5th UNEA Session.

Kenya is ready to host the United Nations Environment Assembly, (UNEA), from February 28th to March 2. A special session will be held to commemorate the 50th anniversary United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It will take place in Nairobi. The meeting of the global leaders is seen as a “critical moment” in the progress towards the first ever global treaty to combat plastic waste.

Bhupendra Yadav (Union Environment Minister) stated that India will play a significant role in the fifth session UNEA. He stated, “India will play an important role in the Fifth Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly that will be held at Nairobi, Kenya.” We have issued a notification to prohibit single-use plastics and a resolution will be passed.

The UNEA will also address climate change, biodiversity, loss of nature, and waste management. The Guardian was informed earlier by Inger Andersen, director, United Nations Environment Programme. He stated that public opinion is growing and that people are impatient about plastic waste. He suggested that world leaders could agree to a binding treaty that would control plastic waste from source to sea’.

This year’s theme is “Strengthening actions for nature to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals”. UNEP, the world’s foremost environmental authority, has been providing a solid and critical stewardship in matters of the environment since its conception. It fulfills its functions by setting the global environmental agenda and promoting the consistent implementation of the environment-related sustainable development within the United Nations.
