Global E-Commerce Markets & Environmental Impact Report 2022

DUBLIN, March 16, 2022/PRNewswire/ “The Environmental Impact of E-Commerce in 2022”Report has been added ResearchAndMarkets.com’s offering.

“The Environmental Impact of E-Commerce2021” provides insight into the B2C E-Commerce Market and its global environmental impact. The publication also reveals that more than 40% of European respondents are willing to pay a premium in order to transport their online purchases in an environmentally friendly manner.

E-Commerce has multiple factors that impact the carbon footprint.

According to research, online shopping can leave a smaller carbon footprint than in-store shopping. The impact of online shopping is dependent on many factors. These include whether customers drive to the retail stores by car, or by other means of transport, and whether they return products purchased online. If so, where and how.

Online shopping is one of the most significant sources of greenhouse gasses. The source lists last-mile delivery as well as energy consumption for IT. Traditional shopping has energy consumption of buildings and trips to physical stores.

E-Commerce companies develop solutions to reduce the environmental impacts of online purchases

Many E-Commerce companies such as Amazon, Zalando and OTTO are taking steps to reduce their environmental impact. These include investments in electric vehicles, renewable energie, introducing reusable mail bags, optimizing packaging material usage, and eliminating single-use plastic from packaging.

E-Commerce is booming with many companies as well as start-ups that address environmental issues. Some companies focus on reverse logistics while others specialize in last-mile delivery and returns.

Zalando bought Fision, which specializes in 3D models for virtual fitting. Many large parcel and post offices are joining the movement. Deutsche Post DHL Group announced it will invest in climate-neutral logistics solutions, with a particular focus on emobility and alternative fuels for aviation.
